A long-lost childhood patchwork project

I recently cleared out my belongings from my childhood home and found this beauty!  It’s one of my first quilting projects that I started with my mom when she was teaching me how to do patchwork and quilting.  This was supposed to be a throw pillow, but apparently it got set aside in favor of other projects!  I remember another light blue sewing project from around the same time; I think I used the same flower print fabric in it.

This was pieced, basted, and quilted entirely by hand.  You can see that some of my piecing is a little wonky!  I don’t remember exactly what technique we used to make the half-square triangles, but I know for sure that it wasn’t the same technique that I use today.  Indeed, I have a vague memory that we actually cut out triangle shapes.

I can see that I have kept some of the same predilections over the years.  I still enjoy the combination of white and light blue. :)  I also still enjoy quilting flower and leaf designs onto quilt tops, perhaps more so than straight lines.  Of course, my tendency to have multiple works in progress has definitely not abated over the years!

I’m not sure what I want to do with this piece of personal and family history.  Maybe I should finish the project and actually make the throw pillow, but part of me wants to leave it as is.  Have you ever rediscovered decades-old, unfinished projects?  What did you do with yours?
