Birch Fabric and Charley Harper: New in the Shop!

We’ve got new fabric in the shop: a beautiful collection called Summer Vol. 2 using designs by Charley Harper and manufactured by Birch Fabrics!  For those of you who may not be familiar with Charley Harper, he was an American Modernist artist famous for his wildlife prints. His work uses a lot of clean, geometric shapes and bold color choices against a solid background.

Charley Harper designed several iconic posters for the United States National Park Service, which you can view on-line at the National Park Service website.

Harper also collaborated with other wildlife and conservation organizations, such as the famous Cornell Lab of Ornithology in New York (who have released a really great bird-call app for your phone) and the Cincinnati Zoo.

You can see some of his illustrations in The Giant Golden Book of Biology, first published in 1961. This book is now out of print but editions can still be found to purchase if you are a big fan of his work! And finally, you can see more of his artwork on-line at charleyharperprints.com.

We are over the moon to be able to offer these fabrics to our customers, so much more so because they are made with GOTS certified organic cotton. The manufacturer, Birch Fabrics, is based out of California in the USA and specializes in organic, environmentally friendly fabric.  Their manufacturing process uses low-impact dyes, is pesticide-free, and is certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard).  In addition to the Charley Harper prints, we also offer some fabrics designed by Jenny Ronen, in the collection called Jenny’s Basics.
