Photography Session

I had the opportunity to have some professional photographs taken just before Pour l’Amour du Fil in Nantes by Céline Virgery. It was a wonderful experience and Céline did a magnificent job at capturing my essence and my quilts’ energy!  It may seem odd to say that quilts have energy, but they really do!

The photos that she took with me in front of my version of the Big Sky Star quilt are especially lovely.  I feel like my personal style has evolved since I made that quilt (over a year ago), but the photos nonetheless celebrate the exuberance of that particular quilt and of that period of my quilt-making.

The Big Sky Star quilt is over 2 square meters and I was having difficulty photographing it on my own. Having access to a professional studio to really show it off well made me so happy!  Getting excellent photos of finished work is always a challenge, especially in my little space which, sadly, has poor natural lighting.  When the weather is better, I can go outside and there’s no lack of beautiful scenery to help stage things, but for many months of the year, the weather is gray and rainy where I live.

Anybody who has any photography tips for getting good photos of large pieces of work, indoors, with limited space and poor lighting, I’m all ears!!  And I’m sure I’m not the only one who needs some help! :)
