Quilted Sneakers Sew-Along
I’ve decided to participate in the quilted sneaker QAL/SAL by Julia Wachs Designs!
I've noticed people making their own shoes for a while now around social media, sometimes using a kit, sometimes using lasts, and the idea of trying my hand at it wouldn’t quite leave me in peace! When I saw the QAL organized by Julia Wachs, I knew it was a sign to try it.
She’s organizing her QAL around a kit sold by SneakerKit, and the kit includes the bulk of the supplies needed to complete the project. Luckily, I already had a few of the necessary tools in my jewelry-making toolkit, so once I had the sneaker kit in hand, I just had to download and print the pattern for my shoe size and that was about it!
The QAL starts this week and our main task is to choose our fabric. I ended up choosing these celestial prints by Camelot Fabrics, which I plan to combine in a very simple patchwork pattern.
If you’re on the fence about making your own sneakers, check out this article by Craft Industry Alliance; they list quite a few resources and people are sewing up the most amazing sneakers! Frankly, if I manage to complete this project well, I already see several pairs of sneakers in my future!
Would you be tempted by such a project? What is the most improbable thing you have created using quilting/patchwork?
