Workshop: combining colors and prints
I recently had the privilege of leading a quilt workshop for the France Patchwork delegation in the Loiret. The goal of this workshop was to help them feel more comfortable choosing fabrics, and above all, to be able to combine colors and prints harmoniously.
Before tackling the final project—a hot air balloon—we took the time to familiarize ourselves with some color theory and try out several fabric combinations and color palettes before choosing our final fabrics for the hot air balloon.
The best way to feel more comfortable with colors and prints is simply to take the time to play with your fabrics, try combinations that take you out of your comfort zone, and not take it too seriously!Aside from that, there are a few tips and techniques I shared with the group that may be helpful if you're having trouble deciding.
However, everyone has their own color preferences, and your project won't necessarily appeal to everyone. But if your choices match your needs and desires for your current project, that's what matters!
Here are some completed hot air balloons, showing a variety of styles:
If your quilting club would be interested in learning how to work more confidently with color and prints, please don't hesitate to contact me. I would be happy to lead a workshop for your club!
